First Timers: A little more insight into newly signed Caleb Herbert and Dustin Stevenson.
Caps Sign Five
As for the other five players, four of them signed with Washington today. Center Jay Beagle inked a two-year deal while defenseman Patrick McNeill and Zach Miskovic and right wing Andrew Gordon signed one-year pacts.
Also, center Andrew Joudrey signed a one-year contract with the Capitals. Joudrey, Washington’s eighth-round (249th overall) pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft played on a Hershey contract last season.
Capitals Sign Right Wing Brian Willsie
Willsie, 32, is a former Capital and Hershey Bear who returns to the organization after splitting the past four years between the Los Angeles Kings and Colorado Avalanche organizations. A veteran of 380 NHL games since he made his debut in 1999-00, Willsie has totaled 52 goals and 56 assists (108 points) in the NHL. His best season came in 2005-06 with the Capitals when he finished fourth on the team with 41 points (19 goals, 22 assists) in 82 games.

Capitals Sign Forward Boyd Gordon
ARLINGTON, VA. – The Washington Capitals have signed center/right wing Boyd Gordon to a one-year contract, vice president and general manager George McPhee announced today. In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Caps Sign Schultz
Defenseman Jeff Schultz signed a four-year contract extension with the Washington Capitals today, avoiding an arbitration with the team. The 24-year-old blueliner – Washington’s second choice (first round, 27th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft – just finished his fourth season in the NHL.
The signing locks up a top four defenseman for the Capitals for the next four seasons, and it gives Washington one of Schultz’s unrestricted free agent years at a salary cap hit of $2.75 million, a very amenable number when the unrestricted free agent signings last week of defensemen around the league are taken into consideration.
Schultz led the league with a plus-50 mark in 2009-10, obliterating the Capitals previous all-time single-season standard of plus-36 (set by Alan Haworth in 1985-86) in the process. He is the first Capital ever to lead the NHL in that department.
